Our Battery
SUPPORTING NSW ENERGY TRANSITION
The NSW Government is committed to a clean energy transition and has set a target for achieving zero emissions by 2050.
In November 2020 they released the NSW Electricity Infrastructure Roadmap, part of the strategy is to establish Renewable Energy Zones (REZ’s) including one in New England.
It is hoped that the Eathorpe Battery can play its part in supporting the NSW Government to achieve a smooth transition to renewable energy.
LEADING-EDGE TECHNOLOGY
The Eathorpe Battery is a grid-scale battery that will connect into Australia’s national electricity grid via the transmission network.
At this early stage in the project’s development no decision has been made about which of a number of leading battery technologies will be used.
Whichever battery technology is chosen, the Eathorpe Battery will provide stability for the region by dispatching stored energy to the grid during peak times of demand.

Umwelt’s role
Umwelt are an environmental consultancy who are helping Neoen with environmental and social studies and development approvals for the project. Studies completed or underway are related to water (surface and groundwater), noise, visual, flora and vegetation, bushfire, and traffic.
These studies will be used to ensure the project addresses key environmental and planning needs.
BIG BATTERY EXPERTISE
Neoen are leading the way in delivering big batteries in Australia and around the world.
Neoen’s 150MW Hornsdale Power Reserve , more commonly known as the ‘Tesla Big Battery’, was the world’s first big battery. It has been keeping the lights on and electricity costs low for South Australians, since 2017.
Our 300MW Victorian Big Battery, near Geelong, is now Australia’s biggest battery.
